Message from the Director: Look How They Shine For You

AmyDear Livingston Library Community,

“Space is for everybody.  It’s not just for a few people in science or math, or for a select group of astronauts. That’s our new frontier out there, and it’s everybody’s business to know about space.” — Christa McAuliffe, Teacher and Challenger Astronaut

That’s why I’m so excited to announce the latest addition to our Library’s lending program – Telescopes!  Stargazing is more than just a dreamer’s pastime, it offers several benefits as well.  A University of California-Irvine study found that looking up at the stars actually makes us calmer.  After leaving our busy lives to stargaze in a remote location, we slow down and relax.  These quiet moments can also help to ignite our imagination and creativity.

The night sky is a wonderful learning canvas for children.  It’s a fun way to learn about the planets, constellations, meteors and the myths behind the constellations.  And let’s not forget those important math skills such as counting, patterns, and mapping.

So get ready to expand your horizons, head outside, and unleash the wonders of the stars!

At the Livingston Library, we bring the world (and the night sky!) to you.

All the best,
Amy
