Get Lit with Mocktails and Popular Reads

Having trouble deciding what to read next? The Girls at 17 Swann Street by Yara Zgheibgirls at 17 tells the story of Anna, a professional ballerina who travels from France to the United States after her husband gets transferred for work.  Anna is a perfectionist who has dreams of making the soloist list.  She tells herself that if she could only twirl a little faster, dance a little better, or a be a little lighter she would make the list.

Anna begins to restrict her diet.  First eliminating chocolate and then cheese, ice cream, and other foods.  After the move, Anna experiences difficulty finding a dance company and is left alone for most of the day with her anxieties while her husband is at work.  She begins to spiral deeper into depression and anorexia and is eventually checked into treatment at 17 Swann Street, thus beginning the tale of her journey.

Next month, the Get Lit Book Club will be reading Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.  Book clubbers who come to the October meeting will be able to pick up copies of November’s book first!

Hope to see you there!
