Horror Movies

I am a horror movie fiend. I love all different genres – slashers, zombies, hauntings, you name it. While recent years have seen great new releases like Midsommar, Hereditary and House of the Devil, I will always love older horror. Below is a sampling of movies from Hoopla Digital that are guaranteed to make you shake with fright and delight! Stay tuned for more scary movies, when I bring you my list of international horror.

House on Haunted Hill

A millionaire offers ten thousand dollars to five people if they last all night trapped in the haunted house he rented for the party he’s throwing for his fourth wife. When you consider that the millionaire is played by Vincent Price and that the film is directed by Schlock master William Castle, you can bet that everyone’s in for a long, bumpy night! This super shocker of the century was a smash hit upon its 1959 release. For architecture buffs, the home used for the exteriors of the haunted house was actually designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924!

Night of the Living Dead

Night of the Living Dead opens with chaos-the brains of the recently deceased have become mysteriously reanimated, causing the dead to rise and feed on human flesh. While visiting their father’s grave, Barbra and her brother Johnny are attacked by a strange shuffling man. Barbra runs into a farmhouse where she encounters Ben, and they must find a way to save themselves from the horde of zombies. Hailed as one of the most influential horror films of all time, George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead is inspirational, thought-provoking, and, most importantly, terrifying!

The Hills Have Eyes

The Carters are an all-American family on their way to California when their car breaks down far from civilization in the remote southwestern desert. But they are not alone. Watching from the hills is a very different kind of clan, a family of marauding inbred cannibals with an unspeakable taste for human flesh and monstrous brutality. In the nightmare that follows, what depravities must this wholesome family endure to survive? And in a primal wasteland ruled by lust and rage, who will become the most shocking savages of all?

Children of the Corn

A young couple find themselves stranded in the rural town of Gatlin, Nebraska, where they encounter a mysterious religious sect of children. But nowhere in town are there any adults. The horror grows to a blood-curdling climax as the two new visitors learn the horrifying secret behind the prospering corn fields.

Nosferatu

An unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Nosferatu is the quintessential silent vampire film, crafted by legendary German director F. W. Murnau. Rather than depicting Dracula as a shape-shifting monster or debonair gentleman, Murnau’s Graf Orlok (as portrayed by Max Schreck) is a nightmarish, spidery creature of bulbous head and taloned claws — perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned.

Hellraiser

From horror master Clive Barker comes this chilling nightmare featuring the first appearance of the hideous, demonic Pinhead. When Kirsty Cotton’s family moves into their ancestral home, they are terrorized by the resurrected corpse of her uncle, who requires the flesh of murdered innocent victims in order to become whole and alive again. A creepy, thrillingly perverse tale straddling heaven and hell, extreme pleasure and unbearable pain, Hellraiser will haunt your dreams.

The Last Man on Earth

Dr. Robert Morgan is the only survivor of a devastating world-wide plague due to a mysterious immunity he acquired to the bacterium while working in Central America years ago. He is all alone now…or so it seems.

Halloween

Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.
