A.I. Artificial Intelligence

From Kanopy: “Director Steven Spielberg’s A.I. propels you into a future of astounding technology and adventure beyond the human imagination in an extraordinary film the New York Observer hails as a “masterpiece” and Rolling Stone applauds as “unmistakably the work of a real filmmaker.” In a future world of runaway global warming and awe-inspiring scientific advances, humans share every aspect of their lives with sophisticated companion robots called Mechas. But when an advanced prototype robot child named David (Haley Joel Osment) is programmed to show unconditional love, his human family isn’t prepared for the consequences. Suddenly, David is on his own in a strange and dangerous world. Befriended by a streetwise Mecha (Jude law), David embarks on a spectacular quest to discover the startling secret of his own identity. Celebrated as a film “filled with visual wonders and astonishing special effects…” (Roger Ebert & Roeper), A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is a visionary motion picture triumph!”

Galaxy Quest

From Kanopy: “For four years, the courageous crew of the NSEA protector – “Commander Peter Quincy Taggart” (Tim Allen), “Lt. Tawny Madison (Sigourney Weaver) and “Dr.Lazarus” (Alan Rickman) – set off on a thrilling and often dangerous mission in space…and then their series was cancelled! Now, twenty years later, aliens under attack have mistaken the Galaxy Quest television transmissions for “historical documents” and beam up the crew of has-been actors to save the universe. With no script, no director and no clue, the actors must turn in the performances of their lives.”

Marie Curie: The Courage of Knowledge

From Kanopy: “The most turbulent five years in the life of a genius woman: Between 1905, where Marie Curie comes with Pierre Curie to Stockholm to be awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of the radioactivity and 1911, where she receives her second Nobel Prize.”

One More Orbit

From Kanopy: “A daring team of astronauts and aviators fly a high-speed Gulfstream jet around the earth faster than anyone ever has to set the pole-to-pole circumnavigation record. Beginning their mission from the same spot Apollo 11 launched for the moon 50 years before, this tribute to the past, present, and future of space exploration breaks the boundaries of what was previously thought possible.”

For Madmen Only

From Kanopy: “Starting his career with Nichols and May, training most of the original cast of SNL and forming Second City, and being the inspiration for the ever popular Upright Citizens Brigade theater (UCB), there isn’t a comic working today who wasn’t fostered or mentored in some way by Del Close.”

Red Cliff

From Kanopy: “Legendary action cinema master John Woo and international superstar Tony Leung reunite for the first time since the 1992 classic HARD BOILED with this epic historical drama based on a legendary 208 A.D. battle that heralded the Han Dynasty’s end.”

In Safe Hands

From Kanopy: “The second feature film from actress-turned-filmmaker Jeanne Herry (Number 1 Fan), IN SAFE HANDS throws us deep into the milieu of the French social assistance services where the fate of one baby boy exposes the conflicting conundrums faced by many women – those giving up their babies and those desperate to have their own.

When baby Theo’s birth mother surrenders him to adoption, child protection services, and officers such as Karine (Sandrine Kiberlain, Number 1 Fan), are called to action, and the harsh realities of the adoption process are pulled into sharp focus.

Karine entrusts Theo to Jean (Gilles Lellouche, C’est la vie!) – no stranger to the foster system himself – who takes on the responsibility of the newborn until a suitable home can be found. Meanwhile, Alice (Élodie Bouchez) has never given up the fight to be a mother and faces the prospect of this dream finally coming true, although nothing is certain.”
