Message from the Director: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

“The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read” – Mary McCleod Bethune

Livingston Library Community,

Open up the world to your young readers and join the Livingston Public Library in our endeavor to promote reading through the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. To participate all you have to do is read to your little one!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is designed for preschoolers who plan to enter Kindergarten in the fall of 2022. Parents and their children are challenged to read 1,000 books, mark their reading journey in their reading log with stickers, and earn prizes along the way.  A ‘Moving Up Celebration’ for children who complete the program will be held in June.

Storytime books count! Audiobooks count! Of course, physical books count too! Whether you prefer physical books or digital books, or both, the Livingston Library has you covered. You can even visit the Livingston Public Library’s YouTube Channel for our virtual storytimes On Demand.

Register your preschooler here with your Livingston Library Card, visit the Youth Services Desk to pick up your Reading Log and stickers, and let’s start our reading journey together!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director

  1. Bethune rings a bell. It’s a century old girls school in Calcutta. English schools & colleges were started by David Hare, Margaret Noble, pure hearted. There were others.
