Livingston Library Community,
Children, Teens, and Adults are invited to “explore an ocean of possibilities” this summer at the Livingston Library by participating in our annual Summer Reading program!
The 2022 Summer Reading Challenge kicks off in the Youth Services department on Monday, July 27th! Three separate reading challenges will be offered through Beanstack for children ages 4 & under, children entering grades K-5, and tweens & teens entering grades 6-12. The challenge will run through the summer and conclude on August 5th.
Participants entering 5th grade and under will earn prizes and raffle tickets as they log minutes, complete kindness activities, and attend library programs throughout the summer. In keeping with this year’s theme, we are thrilled to offer children’s programming tailored to the message of ocean conservation and environmental stewardship, including a performance of “Camp Ocean” by the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company. Our regular seasonal programs return on June 29th, including Nursery Rhyme Time and Little Listeners storytimes, Book Tastings for children of all ages, and Book Buddies for emerging readers and their teen volunteer reading buddies. Children are already actively participating as we gear up for the summer by entering their ideas to name the pirate ship that will be the focal point of our department’s themed decorations this year. All participants are invited to rock out with popular children’s entertainer, Ron Albanese at the End of Summer Concert on 8/9!
Teens entering grades 6-12 can participate in the Summer Reading Challenge by reading, writing book reviews, and earning prizes! Teens are invited to drop in for Puzzle Fridays beginning July 1st, create an abstract ocean painting in our Watercolor Art Class, have fun at Teen Board Game Night to name a few. In addition, teens entering grades 8 and up can apply to our Teen Summer Volunteer Program. Volunteering opportunities include helping little ones increase their reading skills by being a Book Buddy, assisting librarians with children’s programming, shelving books and more!
The Adult Summer Reading program takes place from June 20th through August 1st, and adults may register through the form found here. After registering, for every adult item checked out participants will receive one raffle ticket towards a weekly prize drawing! All participants will also receive a prize for registering, which can be picked up at the Patron Services desk. Two winners will be chosen for the Grand Prize of a NEW KINDLE!
We can’t wait to see you this summer at the Library!
Best,
Amy Babcock, Director
