Livingston Library Community,
Summer 2021 at the Livingston Public Library is going to be the best summer yet! We have so many wonderful events planned for all ages, but “Mrs. Chen’s Memorial Summer Series“ is one that is near and dear to our hearts.
Mrs. Chen was a beloved children’s librarian at the Livingston Public Library for over thirty years, and although she passed away in September of 2013, her legacy continues to live on. The first program in the “Mrs. Chen’s Memorial Summer Series” will be held on Tuesday, July 13th at 6 PM on our Grace Chen Children’s Terrace and was inspired by her love of music and singing. Veteran children’s and family entertainer Ron Albanese will be joining us with his acclaimed “Kiddie Rock ‘n’ Roll” show for an interactive mix of music and comedy guaranteed to have children of all ages laughing and dancing. This concert will also relate to our summer reading theme of “Tails and Tales” as children will enjoy Albanese’s musical “tales” as they shake their “tails” to his music!
Anyone who knew Mrs. Chen quickly came to realize that she loved Livingston, children and books. Our first ever Livingston Youth Author Day brings both things together! On Tuesday, July 20th at 6 PM in the library’s program room, Livingston authors Ariel Bernstein, Jenny Wexler, Mike Malbrough and Ariel Horn share their writing experiences, adventures and their “tales” during our first ever Livingston Youth Author Day! After the presentation, you will have a chase to ask questions and their books will be available for sale.
Meet us on the Grace Chen Children’s Terrace on Tuesday, July 27th at 6:30 PM for the final program in the series, Animal Antics. Traditional storyteller Carol Simon Levin will perform participatory stories and songs for children of all ages to enjoy.
We can’t wait to see you this summer at the Livingston Public Library!
Best,
Amy Babcock, Director

I loved Mrs. Chen and I am so sorry to hear of her passing, As a librarian, she offered so much help and in formation. She inspired children and adults as well. She will be missed. .
Mrs Chen was such a special person. My 32 year old daughter attended the preschool programs and remains an avid reader to this day. Mrs Chen’s warmth and genuine interest in each child was evident. She was able to recommend literature that appealed to my daughter and instilled in her a lifelong love of reading. Thank you for honoring Mrs Chen!
