Message from the Director: The Joy of Backyard Bird Feeding

It is finally spring time!  Flowers are blooming and birds are singing.  Don’t you wish there was a way to attract birds into your home garden?  Backyard bird feeding is a great way to invite nature onto your property, not only so you can enjoy their beautiful songs but also so that you can can observe and learn about the birds native to our area.

On Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 AM, the NJ Audubon Society of Bernardsville, NJ will be at the Livingston Public Library to present The Joy of Backyard Bird Feeding. They will be discussing different types of feeders and the birds they attract, as well as the do’s and don’t of putting up feeders.  Soon you’ll be identifying common backyard birds like the American Goldfinch, Cardinal, and Black-Capped Chickadee right in your very own IMG_0450backyard!

But as always the Livingston Library aims to go above and beyond, and provide you with something unexpected. That’s why we have added Birdwatching Kits to the Library’s “Library of Things.”   These kits will include a pair of binoculars and a bird guide, so you can get out into nature and discover all it has to offer. So this spring I encourage you to come visit the Library and then take us with you out into nature! Install a bird feeder, take a walk and look for birds. Then take a snapshot of your explorations and tag it #LTownLibrary so we can all join in the fun.
