Message From the Director: Travel Back in Time Stich by Stich

Livingston Library Community,

What if you could travel back time and explore American culture stitch by stitch? What if we told you that you can?

The Livingston Public Library is pleased to present Stitches in Time: Three Centuries of Hemlines, Necklines, and Everything In Between.  In this lecture, Liberty Hall Museum will present an engaging talk using their extensive textile and fashion collection, taking us on a journey from the 1700s up through the 1950s.

Located in Union, NJ, Liberty Hall Museum is a historical house and garden museum, which was also home to William Livingston, the first Governor of New Jersey. Following William Livingston, the house was then home to six generations of the Keane Family, who left centuries of historical possessions including china, diaries, and of course, clothing.

In this lecture we will explore the stories of fashion as told over the centuries.  We also learn how Queen Victoria influenced the fashion of women in America, as well as how colonial fashion made a reappearance in the 20th century.

This event is open to all, but registration is required. Registration is required for this event and can be done so through the Library‚Äôs event calendar.  Information on how to access the Zoom event will be emailed to you the day before the lecture is to take place.
