Message From the Director: Welcome to the Livingston Virtual Library

Livingston Library Community,

Our digital collections are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week from the comfort of your own home.  From ebooks, audiobooks, movies, lectures, crafts, and more, there’s something for just about every age level and personal interest.

You may have heard that we recently increased the monthly borrowing limit on Hoopla Digital from 10 items per month to 15.  But we have more exciting news! Hoopla Digital recently created a curated collection of over 1,000 titles including ebooks, audiobooks, television shows, music, and comics for all ages that do not count towards your monthly borrowing limit.  You can browse these “bonus borrows” here.

And we have even more good news!  In response to Macmillan’s reversal of their library eBook embargo, BCCLS has lifted their boycott of Macmillan titles.  This allows us to purchase extra copies of popular new titles for our patrons to enjoy, such as The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel, American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins, Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain, and An Unorthodox Match by Naomi Ragan.  Livingston Cardholders will receive priority on these additional copies, so be sure to place a hold today.

But what if you don’t have a library card and want to open one?

You can now apply for a temporary digital library card! This card will give you access to eBooks, audiobooks, eMagazines, and more.

To apply for a card, follow these steps:

  1. Register here for a limited access card through BCCLS.
  2. You will receive your limited access BCCLS card within minutes through text or email. This temporary digital card will allow you to use Overdrive/Libby and RB Digital for eBooks, audiobooks, and eMagazines.
  3. Livingston residents will receive a follow up email within 24 to 48 hours giving you the option to switch to a temporary Livingston card instead. The temporary Livingston card gives access to our additional digital resources, such as Hoopla, Tutor.com, Creativebug, and more!

Temporary cards will be set to expire on 6/1/2020.  Once the Livingston Library reopens, please visit us with a photo ID to receive a full three-year Livingston Library Card.

Be well, stay safe
Amy
