Message from the Director: Can’t Start a Fire Without a Spark

AmyDear Livingston Library Community,

Do you have a musical hero? Someone whose melodies and lyrics seem to express an unvoiced part of yourself? For me it’s Bruce Springsteen, the tough, principled, thoughtful American poet who embodies the maxim “Jersey Strong.” That’s why I’m extra-excited to welcome Jeff Burger, author and music critic, to the Library on Thursday, June 8th, at 7:00 pm to talk about Springsteen, John Lennon, and Leonard Cohen. As Bruce himself always says, “You can’t start a fire without a spark.” So please join us for what is sure to be an inspiring evening!

All the best,

Amy,
Director – Livingston Library

Message from the Director

Dear Livingston Library Community,

AmyTomorrow is Memorial Day. Here at the Library, we love the beginning of summer as much as everyone else (and maybe even a little bit more!). But we also love the true purpose of this holiday, honoring those who fell in World War I. We hope you’ll join us in watching this two-minute film of the incomparable Jeremy Irons reading aloud from “The Wasteland,” T.S. Eliot’s poem about the Great War, and consider those brave men and women in the armed forces who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us. For more poetry, books, and films about World War I, just ask a librarian. Because in the end, remembering together is one of the most important things we do at the Library.

All the best,

Amy
