With September came a wonderful start to fall programming at the library! This month, library patrons enjoyed author visits, crafting, informative talks, book clubs, and so much more! Here’s a quick recap of what happened this month.
History:
Early in September, Professor James Kane presented, America at War 1941-1945. Kane discussed the surprise attack at Pearl Harbor, the War in the Pacific, the home front, the D-Day Landings at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Flag raisers of Iwo Jima, and the Final surrender in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945.
Costume jewelry has been a staple throughout the ages. Marilyn Visakay presented an interactive talk Costume Jewelry a Cultural Stroll Through the Decades. Participants brought their own pieces of jewelry for identification and discussion.
We also watched the informative documentary Saving the Great Swamp: Battle to Defeat the Jetport, which covers the struggle to preserve a rural area of New Jersey between 1959 and 1968.
We ended our history programs of September by learning about how to research our own family history! Mark Szep of Ancestory.com presented an informative tutorial Intro to Ancestry.com: Gateway to New Family Discoveries.
Festivals and Concerts:
At our Moon Festival Tea & Mooncake Tasting Party attendees enjoyed brewing various teas and sampling yummy mooncakes while viewing two videos about the Moon Festival.
Would it even be September without a fall concert? Diane and Gerard Barros entertained us with their Happy Trails Country Classics concert. We had a great time singing along to some country favorites!

Ash Ahluwalia’s lecture presentation Social Security: Maximizing Benefits Under New Rules taught us the practicalities regarding the new rules of social security and how we can apply them into our own lives.
Unsure of what to do when you or a loved one becomes suddenly sick? Dr. Anothony Carozza of Summit Medical Group presented Urgent or Emergent: How Do You Decide? He went over the basics of when one should seek treatment when faced with a sudden illness.
As the cool autumn days begin to approach, birds begin their migration down south. Pete Axelrod of Wild Birds Unlimited presented The Wonder of Bird Migration. We learned all about why and how birds migrate.
