Message From the Director: Beyond the Books Awaits Our Library of Things

Amy Director

“The library is an arena of possibility, opening both a window into the soul and a door onto the world.”

– Rita Dove, Former U.S. Poet Laureate

Livingston Library Community,

Public libraries are diverse spaces that not only foster a love of learning through print and digital materials, but also through the exploration of hobbies and activities.  Here at the Livingston Public Library we are so much more than just books, and that’s why we are extremely excited to announce that many of the items from the Livingston Public Library’s Library of Things are available for you to reserve and borrow once again.

Items currently available to borrow from the Library of Things include:

  • Chromebooks
  • Telescopes
  • Arduino
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Birdwatching Kits
  • Coloring Kits
  • Electricity Usage Monitors
  • Mobile Hotspots
  • ROKUs with Netflix and Disney+ including Mulan!

To view the complete catalog of items available from the Livingston Public Library’s Library of Things and place reserves of specific items, visit the Library’s website, here.

As with print and media material being returned, all returned items from the Library of Things will be quarantined for 72 hours.  However, items from the Library of Things must be returned to the Circulation Desk inside the library and are still subject to overdue fines if not returned on time.  For more information on the borrowing and return procedure for items from the Library of Things, please visit the Library’s website.

Creativebug & Crocheting

Did you know that the Livingston Library has created a new mashup of two services that we offer? It’s true! Starting this month, you can check out a Creativebug themed Library of Things kit. In addition to being able to check out our popular knitting kit, now you can also try your hand at crocheting! All the information is available through the Creativebug site, while we provide the supplies. This kit is optimal for people who want to learn something new, but may not have the materials on hand.

So what are you waiting for? Come check out this new kit and get crocheting!
