oh, the places you’ll go!

Oh, the places you'll go!

Summer is coming!

That’s the why.

If not already in the what-to-do (or -bring) parts at this point, most are working on the where-, when- and how-to-go portions of the plan.

The who detail should be obvious by now, or it might be the first or trickiest one to still figure out.

Then comes the series of lists — of things to do before, during and after the trip.

In any case, with great plans or with a plan not to plan, it should be good!  Travel to where we’d like to be is always good for the body, mind and soul!

Oh, the places you’ll go!

But before you go, make sure to check out our resources and kits of interest.

Keep On Learning - oh, the places you'll go!

If you’re headed to Paris, Lisbon, or Spain, your darling Library has lovely kits for you (Try reading that with a French accent or with accents in whatever European language you’d like to take in).   For those planning trips within NJ or NYC, we have kits for you as well (though the accents will have to be all locally yours).  And if you’re going to another city, some items in the kits will still be useful!  So maybe this paragraph should have started with “If you’re headed to anywhere, your darling Library has lovely kits for you…”

What in the most exciting way does this mean?

Well… this summer, our Library is rolling out Travel Kits into our Library of Things collection.

There are Travel Kits for these destinations:  Paris, Lisbon, Spain, NYC/NJ (based on the list of most popular city guide books that were borrowed).  Each of the kits contains two maps, two tour books, a phrase book, a universal adapter (for the foreign lands) or a battery backup (for NYC/NJ), and a luggage scale.

That’s a chunk of the preparations right there!

Your Livingston Library card also comes with access to our resources through the internet, through downloaded content, or by streaming online.  You can download the apps onto your devices or you can access them through your web browser.

If part of the prep is how to communicate, use Mango Languages to work on the accents mentioned earlier, along with the conversational handy sentences, so one can try to blend in, or at least find the nearest solution to an urgent need in the city.  If you’re looking for a one-stop-shop of sorts for city information, use A to Z World Travel.  For even more, browse through our language and travel resources.

Our digital collections give you the option to travel light.  There’s Overdrive/Libby for e-books and e-audiobooks.  There’s Hoopla for the same, plus comics, music, TV programs, and movies.  And there’s RbDigital for magazines.

You can also borrow one of our WiFi Hotspots for internet access, or a Roku that comes with complimentary access to Hulu (courtesy of the Friends of the Livingston Library), from our Library of Things collection.

#LtownLibrary

And last but not least, each Travel Kit also comes with a thingamajig — a dome prop that has a picture of our Library’s dome and our hashtag #LtownLibrary laminated on to a popsicle stick handle — for some awesome selfies!  Make sure to take photos with it wherever you travel, and hashtag it so we can see.

We hope you’ll share your photos with us.  We’d love to know which parts of the world the Library can bring to our community!

Until then…

Happy and safe travels!
