Let’s talk about New Adult Fiction! And no, we don’t mean what’s new in the fiction section. We’re talking about the genre.
New Adult Fiction is a genre of fiction whose main characters are primarily in their 20s, and whose plot lines center upon “adulting” whether that means: college, marriage, a career, etc. In this regard, this genre sort of functions as a segway between Young Adult and Adult Fiction, but it’s also one that adults of all ages and life stages can relate to.
Adult Services Librarian, Jessica is reading It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. Colleen Hoover was one of the first self published authors to reach the NY Times Best Sellers List. She is no longer self published, and it’s easy to see why.
It Ends With Us is a beautifully written masterpiece about first relationships, what it means to love, social status, and domestic violence. The novel follows the story of Lily, who meets a neurosurgeon named Ryle. He almost appears too good to be true, but nonetheless she falls madly in love with him and remains so even as he begins to become violent. Hoover crafts her characters with such skill and expertise to the point that the reader finds it almost impossible to hate or blame either one, thus making the reader question the difference between what you would do vs. what you should do.
So, now it’s time to ask you, what are YOU reading?
